A very tribal wool rug from circa 1880 with large paisleys throughout. Woven with a wool pile and on a wool foundation, this rug is soft to the touch and is so nicely aged. It comes from a Persian tribal group that is known for their unique aesthetic and craftsmanship and Afshar rugs we cherish today hold up their legacy. The paisleys throughout are "pregnant". It contains what collectors term as "mother-child boteh". If you look closely you will see paisleys within the paisley motifs. This represents a very meaningful thing, as collectors state that the female weaver was pregnant with this symbolism that was woven, i.e. "mother-child".The rug is old art that was woven by pure love. This amazing Persian also has animal elements woven in, which is also meaningful to the nomads who were village peoples.
Afshar rugs are collectables as well, due to the scarcity of its kind, but we always have it well priced and at a great buy for a great piece of history over here at Blue Parakeet Rugs! We believe every home should be decorated with old rugs. :-)
Hand knotted with vegetable dyed wool.
