6'10 x 10 Antique Persian Heriz / Large Antique Heriz / 7x10 Rug (#1071)

Regular price $2,800.00

As you probably know (and if you've been looking for a while), smaller than 9x12 Persians from this weaving village is hard to find. So for those of you who love these tribal rugs and wants a smaller version, you've found a little pot of gold!

This durable rug was hand knotted in Northwest Persia circa 1920 and has earned loads of character with its age. It is low pile with coarse knotting and owns a sophisticated geometric design with scattered wear throughout. It is bountiful in color ways and the 4 corners of this rug with pops of aqua blue are divine.

Remember, it's antique so it is a vegetable dyed wool rug (it does not get any better).

Fun facts: Heriz rugs are known for their outstanding durability. Coined "the Iron Rug of Persia," Heriz rugs were produced in the Northwest corner of Persia, on and around Mount Sabalan. One reason for the toughness of Heriz carpets is that Mount Sabalan sits on a major deposit of copper. Trace copper in the drinking water of sheep produces the most desired wool for rug weaving because it makes wool that is stronger and more resilient than wool from most other areas. It is said that many Heriz rug designs are woven from memory, with intricate designs passed on through generations of artisans.
