From the region of Caucasus mountains, this antique vegetable dyed wool rug embodies great style, geometric and bold design. It was hand knotted circa 1880 and comes from the Shirvan district, known to have some of the most finely knotted and sophisticated antique carpets of the Caucasus region. For example, this iconic Caucasian Shirvan antique rug is striking in its elemental simplicity. These rugs are considered rare and many like to collect them, having been produced from expert dyers and weavers.
The rug features 3 medallions in the field with serrated leaves and wine cups in the borders. The size woven is amazing and hard to find. The color story is sensational and the tribal art will represent wherever it is styled. It is low pile with lightly scattered wear. In amazing shape and condition for its age.
