This is a large and amazing Caucasian Kazak (aka an old Russian rug) from the 1880s and we're so lucky to have found it. Most of these rugs that were woven by nomads who traveled come small, but here we have a room size and it is perfect for those who love this style of antique rugs.
In the pics and close ups, you can really see the detail of this tribal rug and it's weave, hand knotted with durable wool on wool foundation. It comes from the Caucasus mountains and it features medallions and symbolic elements throughout. Usually, Kazak rugs have more bold and contrasting color ways, but this beauty has a mellow and earthier patina going on. We love it. Very warm and soothing.
This rug has loads of wear and character. It truly breaths its age. It is beautifully worn through time. It is highly decorative and meaningful with immense history, art and culture that would be a statement piece in the home.
