Regular price $0.01

Treasured for their amazing construction technique, this thick flat weave rug is ever strong and a spectacular piece of art. This is an amazing Caucasian Soumak (aka an old Russian) rug from the early 1900s and we're so lucky to have found it. Woven in the Caucasus mountains, and it features grand medallions and smaller, intricate motifs throughout. The rug is wool and sits on a wool foundation. This flat weave was accomplished by looping the yarn horizontally around successive pairs of warps in between passes of over-under wefting. This technique lends itself to the detailed weft-wrapped weaving technique known as Soumak.

This beauty has perfect, light wear and lovely character with contrasting natural dyes that makes this rug pop! Throughout the rug, you will see the amazing variations of the vegetable dyes. This is technically called abrash. It is a lovely component of old rugs that we adore and it is not just a great floor covering, but It can be used as a large wall hanging or an amazing bed spread; really, people have done this for centuries.

Woven with all natural dyes, it is highly decorative and meaningful with immense history, art and culture that would be a statement piece in the home.

Since this is a thin and low pile flat weave, you may want to consider a rug pad that we can custom cut to size for this rug:
