6'6 x 11'2 Antique Afghani rug #2643

Regular price $2,600.00

This amazing antique Afghani rug has a wonderful bold and graphic all-over Bokhara design that will catch the eye. This classic all-over pattern is called the gul motif and it is described as a linear and symmetrical oval-shape pattern, which is also known as the elephant track motif.  These motifs are very ancient and pre-date Christianity and Islamic beliefs. A play on the far east idea of the yin-yang symbolism can be seen through the use of coloring; ivory, rose red, and navy blue highlight the harmony of love and unison between the sexes.

A maroon ground with berry dyes provide the perfect backdrop to the gorgeous elephant track motif and border design, giving it a grounded feel. There are some color changes of dyes evident throughout the rug design, which gives this piece even more identity. When weavers switch to a new batch of wool, sometimes the coloration of the wool is not exactly the same as the batch before it, giving it a unique appearance distinct to the rug. When you really zoom in,  you can see the wonderful blues in the motifs of this piece.

Although this rug is in great condition, there are some tiny areas of old repairs. It has a nice tight weave and a low pile, woven by skillful female weavers circa 1920. The all-over pattern makes this beauty easy to style and can bring a lot of warmth and character to any space it lives in.

Handwoven with all natural, vegetable dyed wool.
