This is a large and amazing Caucasian (Russian origin) Soumak rug from the early 1900s with rich, natural vegetable dyes. It is a strong and durable flat weave, and the lovely rug lends itself well to the detailed weft-wrapped weaving technique known as Soumak. This wool on wool rug was made in the Caucasus mountains and it features large diamond medallions and intricate motifs throughout. The borders have ram horns woven in.
You will see abrash (natural shades of dyes to color) throughout, which is so beautiful and indicative of this antique hand woven gem. It is a very tribal piece, highly decorative and meaningful with immense history, art and culture that would be a statement piece in the home.
