Feast your eyes on this gorgeous antique 1920s Persian Heriz rug with its bold design and eye-catching color story. The central medallion draws the eye in with its strong curvilinear lines and wonderful botanical-themed designs. Then as the eye widens its gaze to take in the rest of the rug pattern, meandering blossom-laden vines encompass the central medallion and a welcoming energy. Fantastic spandrels in olive green, which is a rarity to see in Persian rugs, and French blue add another layer of decorative elements that elevates the overall design.
Serrated leaves and floral motifs against a midnight blue ground in the main border acts as the perfect frame for such a lovely rug. Handwoven with wool dyed from natural resources, such as flowers, vegetables, and plants, it is a testament to the quality of the natural dyes used to give this rug such a fabulous color story. There is some scattered wear and some small areas alongside the edge guard that has been professionally rewoven with excellence (see pics). In fact, some of the differences in wool color can be seen between the wool dyed 100 years ago and the wool dyed today. This beauty was well taken care of and restored in some areas that needed repair. The art and pattern were carefully duplicated in order to keep the integrity of the overall design and aesthetic of this awesome rug.
Handwoven with vegetable dyed wool. A durable Persian rug from the region of Heriz.
