This is a hand woven antique Persian Mashhad rug, from the northeastern province of Khorasan of Persia. Mashhad is a major producer of valued rugs for hundreds of years and known to have some of the finest wool in their rugs. It is a wool pile on cotton foundation. Very sturdy and low pile. 

Hand knotted wool circa 1900 with all natural dyes derived from plant, vegetable, root and flowers. The real deal!
