This is an antique 1920s Persian Heriz that sets really sets the mood! The rug features a deep brick red ground and it has dijon mustard corner sprandels. It features a central medallion that cannot be missed with deep indigo blue, aqua blue, coral, green, ivory and more. The borders also feature an indigo blue ground (may appear black, but it is indeed blue).
It has a geometric and angular floral design, with some amazing medallions and motifs throughout. The palette is bold and brilliant atop this mountain tribal rug, but also with the age and lightly scattered wear, it shows up calm and with gracefully aged dyes.
The rug is hand knotted with vegetable dyed wool and in excellent condition, especially considering its 100 year old age.

More about this rug: Heriz rugs are known for their outstanding durability. Coined "the Iron Rug of Iran," Heriz rugs were produced in the Northwest corner of Iran, on and around Mount Sabalan. One reason for the toughness of Heriz carpets is that Mount Sabalan sits on a major deposit of copper. Trace copper in the drinking water of sheep produces the most desired wool for rug weaving because it makes wool that is stronger and more resilient than wool from most other areas. It is said that many Heriz rug designs are woven from memory, with intricate designs passed on through generations of artisans.
