For the lovers of serious soul, character and age…this is one of those rugs that’s lived a thousand lives. A true antique Ersari, approximately 120 years old, and absolutely worn down with grace. What’s left is a rich surface of soft, low pile wool and patina that tells you it’s been stepped on, danced on, maybe cried on too…and it's still around to give love.
You’ll notice its graced look, now muted and softened by time, giving way to charcoal and chocolate tones where the wool has worn and oxidized. Scattered throughout are the hallmark Ersari motifs; large, repeated octagonal guls with floral elements nested inside, executed with a tribal hand and boxed within a geometric lattice. There’s no mistaking the Turkoman lineage here.
The feel here is floppy, with a gentle handle. This piece isn’t pristine, and that’s the point. It’s threadbare in many spots, and yet holds tight to its form and function. It has one patch on the corner. You don’t get this kind of raw beauty without age and use. It would be an incredible floor piece for someone who appreciates imperfection, honesty, and history. Or hang it up and let it tell its story from the wall. It hums.
