7x9 Antique 1920s Persian Heriz Rug on Salmon Ground #4629

Regular price $4,500.00

This 1920s Persian Heriz is a standout, starting with its unusual salmon ground. It’s not a color often found as the main color in old Heriz rugs; it simply gives the entire rug a completely different personality.

The field on the old Persian rug is packed with bold, angular drawing that makes these old Northwest Persian rugs recognizable and continuously in demand. Serrated leaves, geometric florals, branching vines and chunky blossoms are showcased across its salmon field, with great illustration of jagged edges and hard turns, characteristic of Heriz weaving. The navy border displays awesome floral forms around the perimeter, which gives the softer salmon field even more weight.

There’s so much color in this rug, with great contrast against the salmon; there are layers of indigo and navy, denim and French blues, blue-green, muted sage, brick and tomato reds, warm soft yellow and ivory. The natural dyes are exquisite, and there are different shades and variations of color from one area to another, with plenty to discover up close.

It has also lived a life. There is loss of wool down to the foundation in several areas, along with scattered wear throughout. It is part of this rug’s age and character. Please look closely through all photos for detailed views of the wear, exposed foundation and overall condition. But worry not…this rug is rugged and a solid old Heriz which can take on a lot more life, so feel free to style it in the busy areas. These Northwest Persian rugs were woven with substantial wool and a strong structure, and this one has the kind of weight underfoot that will hold up.

Hand knotted in Northwest Persia approximately 100 years ago, this is an old Heriz with color, weight, strong tribal drawing and plenty of personality. And that salmon ground really does set it apart.

Check out the video clip of it below. Extended at amazing value.
