This is a hand woven antique 1920s Mashhad rug, from the northeastern province of Khorasan of Persia. Mashhad is a major producer of valued rugs for hundreds of years and known to have some of the finest wool in their rugs. It also happens to be the holiest place in Persia.
On a dark blue ground with Mahi design, this old Persian has a wool pile on cotton foundation. The borders are a red ruby ground. Also, the weaver left a mark, it’s the script that you’ll see at the very top of the rug. When we see this, we point to the rug being woven by a master weaver.
This very durable room size rug with light scattered wear aims to please. It is in nice condition for its age, but please see pics for a closer look. Btw, all edges are bound and secure.
Hand knotted wool with all natural dyes derived from plant, vegetable, root and flowers. The real deal!
