This Heriz Serapi has a character all its own and once styled, it'll be the natural focal point because the art and color ways command attention. With time softened, natural dyes and highly stylized tribal art, it's an early 1900s Persian that has aged well and features a calm melon like ground with sky blue spandrels.
The motifs to the left and right of the central medallion definitely catches your attention as do the motifs surrounding. This rug is low pile and worn. It's fully intact and there is a lot of abrash (variation of natural dyes) exposed in the rug that truly speak its age and beauty.
It was woven in the rugged NW mountains of the country with durable and coarse vegetable dyed wool. The borders are on a midnight blue ground with serrated leaves and geometric floral art.
