Originating from the most beautiful and holiest city of Persia, Mashhad, this very unique antique Persian Mashhad rug is a wonderful example of the kind of quality rugs that come out of this amazing city. Mashhad is one of the most prominent cities in the carpet weaving industry and has been producing beautiful Persian rugs for centuries.
Not only does this late 19th Century rug have an uncommon square shape not often seen in Persian rugs, but the design is highly unusual. The main field is very distinct with a lovely botanical themed medallion and four corner motifs in aqua blue, sailor blue, ivory, berry red and pops of light tangerine that tie the design all together. The highly ornamental border bands are almost as substantial as the main field, continuing the botanical theme and color story perfectly.
Its proportions are not typical and this makes this amazing rug extra special and different. It is definitely unique in the collection. Mashhad rugs have super cool and outstanding traits of aged wear; the way the age truly has character and this piece looks substantially old.
This beauty was woven with vegetable dyed wool and is fully intact, but has some loss of wear/threadbare in mainly one spot on the rug. It has been love worn over the years, but still has so much life left in it to truly shine in a home. This is a one of a kind rug that will bring charm, beauty, and style to any home décor.
