This is an amazing Caucasian (Russian origin) Soumak rug from the early 1900s and we're so lucky to have found it.
This wool, flat weave rug was woven in the mountains and it features strong medallions and intricate motifs throughout. The lovely rug lends itself well to the detailed weft-wrapped weaving technique known as Soumak. It has a floppy handle and folds like a handkerchief. It is worn, with a beautifully aged patina and exhibits a subdued color story that is absolutely eye catching.
Exact size: 7'8 x 10'3 and please note that this Soumak is handwoven, so it does have natural and slight wave as it is not straight like a machine made rug. We don't recommend this flat weave to be in a high traffic area. Please see pics for details and full characteristics of this antique and handwoven pieces.
