Check out this 1920s Heriz that has that irresistible sun-baked look that only a century of living can create. Woven in the rugged mountains of northwest Persia, it carries all the bold, rectilinear artwork Heriz rugs are celebrated for, but with a wonderfully relaxed, lived-in feel.
The warm terracotta field has mellowed beautifully over time, while the naturally aged vegetable dyes have softened into earthy shades of faded brick, midnight blue, denim, camel, ivory, and touches of olive. The geometric motifs stretch confidently across the field, creating an allover graphic composition that feels both architectural and artistic.
The midnight blue border is one of our favorite details. Rather than competing with the field, it mirrors the same bold graphic language, framing the rug with striking contrast and giving the entire piece wonderful balance.
Its nearly square proportions make it especially versatile; a size that's surprisingly difficult to find and works beautifully in living rooms, offices, bedrooms, or beneath a breakfast table.
This is a true workhorse. The weave is stout and durable with a healthy low pile that is ready for everyday living. There are a few tiny areas of wool loss, each about the size of a dime, but they disappear into the overall character of the rug and are simply part of its honest century-old journey.
