If you want personality, this 1920s Heriz offers a big one. It's big, bold, rugged and beautifully worn, with that awesome NW Persian wool and a design that has energy and character from one end to the other. The art here is different from typical Heriz with a central starburst and if you've looked around at others, you can immediately tell.
The large central medallion is a burst of beauty on the field, like a kaleidoscope, surrounded by angular vines, oversized blossoms, leaves and all edgy art and geometric details that are classic to these NW Persian rugs. There’s a lot happening, and at each glance, you will discover more to it and it's wonderful and filled tribal drawing. There's an abundance of color and the warm camel tones almost glow against the deeper colors.
The dyes are still wonderfully vibrant after roughly 100 years. French blue and indigo run throughout, along with coral, a deep red, warm camel, deep navy, pin, coral, soft ivory, rick red, and shocks of teal green.
And then there’s the wear that has been earned through its lifetime which gives off a great mix of texture across the rug and shows off its vegetable dyes, its age and its character.
Heriz rugs were woven to work. The wool from this part of NW Persia is known for being sturdy and substantial, and these rugs were made with everyday life in mind. Even with its age and wear, this one still feels rugged and durable in hand.
It’s tribal, energetic, colorful and a little rough around the edges and it will bring a great presence to the room, and everything that goes on top of it, will look even better. Please see pics for full details and character. Thanks for shopping small! Check out the video clip for a good look at this old Persian below.
