9’3 x 12’10 Antique 19th Century Serapi tribal rug (#1791) / 9x13 Vintage Rug

Regular price $0.01

This Persian is a very special one, better known as Serapi. These tribal, village pieces were woven by nomads who were known to produce the elite Heriz region rugs. These old pieces have more artistic and creative value attached and the weavers used finer, natural materials.

This 19th Century worn Persian from the mountains in the northwest is a work of art that has has seen time and still keeps on ticking. If you have been looking at rugs for a while you can see how distinct this beauty is. Turtles in the borders all around and amazing motifs and vine work in the field. The amazing navy blues that you see come from natural indigo.

This magnificent piece took years and multiple weavers to produce. The artisans went for bold and beautiful; it was likely made to order back in the day, we're talking the 1860-1880s! It is an antique rug with great presence and strength.

The antique ivory ground color is exquisite and just as hard to find in old rugs as is the art it embodies. The contrast is illustrated with the rust borders that frames the rug so beautifully, and it creates the perfect contrast.

We are in love with this piece. It is nothing short of grand and when you know you have an original rug hand woven with all natural dyes, this is genuine art that is like no other. It is not easy to find rugs like these and with such size and history. Rug galleries and brick and mortar shops would sell this likely nothing short of $50K. We're proud to have this piece in our small shop and collection and extended at a great value for a 19th Century work of art. Thank you for taking the time to read!
