9x12 Worn Vintage Rug / Tribal Persian Mahal Rug #1969

Regular price $6,500.00

They are some of the most desirable village weavings and there are many reasons why. Sultanabad are the elite of the NW Persian Mahal rugs, with sophisticated and unique design. They’re highly sought out for their amazing decorative aesthetic and style and they stand through time as the most amazing examples of art and history.

We are proud to have this 19th Century Persian and it sure aims to please. It features a gorgeous design, lattice-like, and the floral art flows beautifully with larger scale floral medallions, vine art, surrounded by irresistible sky blue and aqua blue borders that morph into deeper sailor blue with extraordinary abrash. What is Abrash? The glorious, natural variations of vegetable dyes and different batches of those dyes used to weave over the span of years it took to produce this heirloom.

Also, the jaw dropping wear that comes with age and history is very evident and if you're a fan of that sort of thing, then you've hit a small jackpot. With all the rugs out there that are intentionally distressed to look this way, it's hard to find an authentic antique that locks in true history and life like this one does.

This rug used to be slightly longer, but at one point of its life, it was professionally reduced to this custom size. Lastly, it has one corner with a patch, about an inch square. Please see pics.

Fun fact: a Sultanabad Mahal that Freud had in his personal collection was sold in 2001 for $92K.

This heirloom has been professionally cleaned and is ready for its next abode.

Exact size: 9’4 x 11’9
