This marvelous antique Turkish rug presents such distinguishing characteristics, projecting immense tribal flavor and an intimate patina with warm, terra cotta tones. Living with enormous character 150 years later, this circa mid 19th Century rug has distinct beauty that is alive and evident with rare and primitive art form. These amazing rugs have been woven in the small region known as Oushak since about the beginning of the Ottoman empire. The village weavers may have taken up two to three years to produce this work, undoubtedly from the wool of their own sheep, leaving us with a large, room size rug that will be forever cherished.
This old village rug offers a shabby chic feel and look that will serve as a statement piece, inspiring us with early old world elements and motifs. What’s more, the magnificent use of natural dyes in this Oushak sits subdued and with superbly aged tones and an extraordinarily simple design of fewer, almost randomly woven motifs. Each of of the large, over-scale motifs that you see of this Oushak are amazing and in essence, stand alone. This piece will undoubtedly be a beautiful addition for home décor and offer a great deal of romance to the interior. This rug stands for everything that is natural woven with 100% wool and vegetable dyes.
