This antique Persian Tabriz rug brings serious color shift mania, thanks to natural abrash created by changes in dye batches during weaving. As the weaver worked through different lots of hand dyed wool, the ground color subtly shifts from warm and earthy to lighter and cooler tones, giving the rug depth, movement, and that unmistakable old rug character collectors love.
The design features a loose, lattice like interlaced floral pattern with birds thoughtfully scattered throughout the field, adding such charm and playfulness as well. This Persian feels lively but still is refined. The main border showcases a decorative botanical band filled with more bird motifs set against a soft blue ground, while an additional border layer introduces birds and florals on an ivory base, creating a beautiful sense of balance and framing.
Woven in Tabriz with fine wool and a tight weave, this is a high quality Persian rug in very nice condition. The wool has a natural glow and is soft to the touch, with a low pile that makes it easy to live with while still showing off the craftsmanship. A visually rich piece that rewards a closer look and keeps revealing more over time. Pics taken in different settings to show off the cooler and warmer tones, and the variance.
Handwoven with vegetable dyed wool.
