This worn nomadic Baluch rug was handwoven during the first quarter of the 20th century and carries all the personality these old tribal rugs are known and loved for. Its repeating octagonal motifs unfold across a deeply mellowed field of earthy brown, brick red, maroon, faded olive, dusty coral, various touches of blue, and soft ivory, all created with vegetable-dyed wool.
The woven kilim ends are especially wonderful, with irregular stripes and handmade details that give us a glimpse of the weaver behind the rug. Nothing here feels overly planned and it is definitely not machine-perfect. It is personal, soulful tribal art created for everyday nomadic life from a bygone era of dying & weaving practices
After roughly a century of living, it's beautifully love-worn, giving the rug its relaxed, floppy handle. It folds easily, settles beautifully, and is not stiff or boardy. Please see pics for full character and condition.
