Long, lean, and ready to roll, this antique 1920s Persian Bidjar is a gallery-size knockout with serious charm and strength. Known as the "Iron rugs of Persia," Bidjars are the heavyweights of the rug world, woven to last lifetimes, literally. This one likely came out of a small family-run workshop, handwoven for the Persian elite. That makes it fancy and full of heart.
The ground color is terracotta with a punch and the design is buzzing with life, with floral motifs and a classic Herati (fish) pattern weaving everything together with a poetic rhythm, and a space blue border with floral motifs and serrated leaves. Look closely and you’ll find cute little animal figures nestled in a part of the border, maybe a nod to the weavers’ furry companions.
The color story hits all the right notes: sandy yellow, hunter green, pistachio green, garnet, lilac, sky blue, and creamy ivory, all done in lush, vegetable dyed wool. Floor ready, it’s got an even low pile, secure edges, and is in excellent condition. From the collection of an esteemed (and clearly tasteful) collector who’s no longer with us, we’re honored to share this gem and offer it at way below retail.
