Most of these village rugs were woven on deep red fields, so finding one in this happy, pink coral shade is a real treat and that’s a great part of what makes this a standout piece. Its color truly paints its personality. And then, you start noticing all the marbling. The coral-pink shifts as it moves across the field, showing you more depth. This shift in vegetable dyed wool is called abrash and it’s a wonderful effect from different batches of wool used that also becomes part of its design story.
The all over floral art is happy with mixed in colors of soft blues, faded navy, warm walnut, ivory and more. The wool…there’s hearty fluff to it. It’s healthy, substantial, and still has a beautiful, cushioned pile a century later. Lift a corner and you’ll immediately notice the weight. This isn’t a delicate old rug that’s asking for special treatment. It’s sturdy, has plenty of life left, and is more than ready to be enjoyed every single day.
