This little beauty is a Ferahan Sarouk…a small and mighty piece from the early 20th century, woven in the west-central region of Persia where some of the most detailed and refined village rugs were made. Ferahan Sarouks are known for their tight weave, crisp drawing, and those super intentional floral motifs…and you can see all of that happening here.
The midnight blue ground sets the stage for those signature Ferahan botanicals…tiny, angular blossoms arranged almost like a trellis. The medallion shapes in the center are classic Sarouk influence…structured, elegant, and filled with stylized florals. The coral and soft green tones come from vegetable dyes that have mellowed into the sweetest aged palette.
Even though it’s a small rug, it packs that “old world Persian detail” punch. The border. loaded with tiny rosettes, frames everything perfectly. It’s low pile and the weave is nice and tight, which is why the motifs have such definition.
The vegetable dyed have pop and have aged SO beautifully. This beauty has one tiny patch (where my hand is in photo), you can zero in and see.
