There are chickens in the rug. And peacocks too.
This old Persian Kurdish scatter rug is filled with tribal storytelling. Against the deep navy ground, rows of flowering plants are joined by little chickens, long-tailed peacocks, and other wonderfully wonky animal figures. Look closely and the field starts to feel like a tiny village garden, one created knot by knot through the hands and imagination of its weaver.
The vegetable-dyed wool brings together mellowed brick red, faded coral, soft blue, teal, various greens, ivory, and little flashes of yellow. Time has worn the pile low in areas, allowing parts of the structure to peek through and adding even more personality to the surface.
And no, it is not totally straight. Its slightly irregular shape is part of its handmade nature and a reminder that this was never produced by a machine or designed for perfection. It's simply old, woven with vegetable dyed wool, a practice that is from a bygone era, and it's REAL.
Despite the wear, the rug remains stout and sturdy, with a solid weave ready for more life. A soulful little Persian scatter rug with color, character, and an entire story living inside it.
