Antique Persian Mini Sultanabad Mahal Late 19th Century / 1’9 x 3’ Rug #217

Regular price $1,350.00

Nearly impossible to find a rug from this village, a mid to late 19th century Persian Sultanabad Mahal. In the 10 years of collecting, this is my first to turn up in miniature size like this and after almost a decade of holding on to it, I’m ready to have it find a new home.

Woven with all the character and artistry of their larger counterparts, this little collectible packs an incredible amount of design into a tiny footprint. The navy field is filled with a beautifully balanced Tree of Life composition, where flowering vines, and stylized blossoms branch upward in perfect symmetry. It’s the kind of design that keeps revealing little details the longer you just look at it.

The vegetable-dyed wool has aged beautifully. The weave has that unmistakable old-world feel, and like many rugs of this age, it isn’t perfectly straight…a reminder that it was woven entirely by hand rather than by machine.

Condition is quite respectable for a rug of this age. There is a small area of loss at one corner, shown in the photos, but otherwise it remains in respectable condition and displays beautifully. For collectors, it’s the rarity of the size that makes this piece especially exciting.
