Long, lean, and beautifully woven, this 1920s Persian runner is a piece that will quietly transform, and with grace. Woven with a remarkably tight knot structure, it comes from one of Persia’s most respected weaving regions, where generations of master weavers became known for producing refined rugs with incredible durability and elegant detail. That region is Kerman.
Now to the dimensions, long and narrow! Finding a super skinny runner is hard, but if you’ve landed here and spotted this runner, you likely already know.
Now on design, it’s curvilinear and beautiful. Instead of relying on several bold medallions running down its field like many, this one speaks with delicate curling vines, flowering branches, and graceful linear artwork travel the entire length of the runner, creating a wonderful sense of rhythm from one end to the other. Your eye naturally follows the design, making this an especially beautiful choice for a long hallway or as a gorgeous stairway runner where the artwork will really shine.
The wool is stellar even though it is a century old. It holds an incredible amount of natural lanolin, giving the surface a soft glow and luxurious sheen. It’s in remarkable condition with truly high-quality wool. Depending on which direction you view it, the runner will appear noticeably lighter or deeper in color because of the way the wool nap reflects light. It’s one of my favorite characteristics of old Persian rugs with sheen, and when installing it in a hallway or on stairs, you can choose which direction you prefer the rug to read, lighter and brighter, or richer and moodier.
The weave itself is wonderfully compact and supple with healthy, velvety wool. It feels substantial without being bulky, making it an excellent candidate for stair installation or any long, narrow passage where durability matters just as much as beauty.
