Antique Persian Runner / 4' x 16'4 Persian Malayer #4346

Regular price $4,150.00

This antique Malayer runner from the 1920s is all about amazing, solid construction with great length that'll cover a lot of ground.

Handwoven with vegetable dyed wool, it features a field filled with small boteh motifs repeated rhythmically throughout. The boteh is one of the oldest Persian design elements…often associated with growth, continuity, and life moving forward…and here it creates a beautifully dense, textured surface without feeling busy.

The midnight blue ground sets a deep, grounding base, layered with brick red, soft greens, yellow, aqua blue, espresso brown, and antique ivory. There’s a visible streak of abrash running through the field, caused by natural dye batch changes during weaving. Think of it as the rug’s fingerprint…a one of a kind marker that confirms age, authenticity, and handwork rather than anything manufactured. The main ivory border with antiqued ivory has a gorgeous pop and features star art. The runner offers numerous border bands, really showing off great art, crisp detail and the skills of female weavers.

Malayer rugs come from western Persia and are known for their solid construction, durable wool, and practical beauty. These were rugs made for daily life…woven to last, meant to be walked on, lived with, and passed down. This one holds that tradition well. The structure feels sturdy and reliable, with a low wool pile that's resilient and strong underfoot.

The borders are richly patterned with layered geometric and floral elements that frame the runner without overpowering the field. It’s balanced, confident, and versatile.

A great choice for hallways, kitchens, or high use spaces where durability matters but you still want soul and story.
