Woven by tribal weavers of Shiraz in Persia circa 1940, this antique rug brings a whole lot of personality in a perfectly imperfect package. The wool is soft to the touch with a low to medium pile and that relaxed floppy handle that only comes from decades of use. Vegetable dyes have mellowed beautifully, letting the colors settle into a rich navy blue ground layered with brick red, ivory, rust, and pops of warm orange.
The design centers around a bold medallion nested inside a larger diamond form, surrounded by playful tribal motifs…including animals scattered throughout the field that add movement, symbolism, and charm. The border features a pinwheel of life motif set against an ivory ground, giving the composition a rhythmic frame and a bit of visual breathing room. These details feel instinctive and expressive, very much tied to daily life and storytelling rather than strict symmetry.
Scattered wear is present and appreciated here…it shows the rug has lived, worked, and been loved. Underneath it all is a strong, raw wool foundation that keeps the piece stable and floor ready. A soulful tribal Persian with plenty of character and zero stiffness, ready for its next chapter of life.
