This is a true antique Bidjar…skinny, mighty, and built like very few rugs are. Bidjars are often called the iron rugs of Persia, and this one lives up to that reputation. The wool is exceptionally strong, resilient, and dense; made to endure centuries of real life underfoot. Even with age, it holds its structure beautifully, staying flat, stable, and ready for daily use.
Originally woven wider, this rug was professionally reduced. The work was done thoughtfully and cleanly, preserving the integrity of the design and allowing this piece to continue its journey rather than be retired. It’s now a rare under-3-foot width…a size that’s incredibly hard to find in true antiques, especially ones with this level of quality and presence. Handwoven with vegetable dyed wool and looking great.
The central medallion runs long and proud down the field, giving the rug a strong sense of direction and movement. That elongated, almost architectural feel is classic Bidjar... grounded, purposeful, and ever powerful. The vegetable dyed wool showcases settled tones that only time can create, with beautiful depth and variation throughout.
