What makes this one of a kind rug amazing is not only the art form and rarity, but the fact that we have a mate to go along with it if you'd like a pair! This rug is 4'4 x 6'8 and we have the perfect mate at 4'4 x 6'10 also in the shop.
This antique Persian from circa 1900 is from Bibikabad, which is from the Hamadan region in Persia. These rugs are similar to their neighboring town, in Malayer. This rug is a definite heirloom and has generations to go. Let's dive in and look at this BEAUTY of a rug, shall we?
The Bibikabad families have rugs woven that are super durable and their name literally means, “the village of grandmother,”. This rug, while low pile, has thick wool you cannot miss, with symmetrical knotting that has a distinguishing characteristic. It features a deep indigo blue ground (color almost appears black). The field of the rug is generous, with articulate geometric-floral nesting design. The intricate work has a very bold color ways, but with top notch natural vegetable dyes, it has a solid balance and calm to it.
From circa 1900
Hand knotted with vegetal (vegetable) dyed wool
