7x10 Warm Sand and Blue Flat Weave Kilim #3351

Regular price $3,600.00

This is a large and amazing Caucasian (Russian origin) Soumak Kilim rug from the early 1900s and we're so lucky to have found it because these color ways are one in a million! The lovely rug lends itself well to the detailed weft-wrapped weaving technique known as Soumak. This wool on wool, flat weave rug was made in the Caucasus mountains and it features medallions and intricate motifs throughout.

Beautifully worn and aged through time, the backdrop of this flat weave is a warm sand with a purple blush undertone from its original dyes that have gracefully faded/age through time. You can see it slightly, it is faint. You will see abrash (natural shades of dyes to color) throughout, which is so beautiful and indicative of this antique hand woven gem.  The Kilim features classic Soumak medallions flanked. There are variations of the natural, vegetable dyed wool color throughout. It also has shades of sailor blue, tangerine as well as charcoal/espresso brown. It is a very tribal piece, highly decorative and meaningful with immense history, art and culture that would be a statement piece in the home.
