Large ivory ground antique Soumak with vegetable dyes. Has specs of tangerine and light raspberry in its color ways. There are various shades of color throughout, which speaks volumes about the beauty of this rug. Experts call this "abrash" and it is a lovely characteristic of old rugs that are woven with natural dyes.
This is from the Caucasus mountains and considered and old Russian. It is woven with wool and sits on a wool foundation. The Soumak has been secured also with a cloth backing, which is a nice touch by someone who owned it prior to keep the rug nicely protected on the bottom.
