An authentic survivor from the Caucasus mountains, this circa 1880 antique runner shows exactly the kind of life these village weavings were meant to live. Woven by mountain weavers north of Persia, it carries strong tribal geometry across a brick red field, with motifs representing power, strength, and resilience. A classic “fence of security” border frames the piece, symbolizing protection and continuity.
Time has clearly left its fingerprints here…this runner is beautifully battered and bruised, with a low wool pile and areas of visible age that speak to more than a century of use. It has received thoughtful rug rehab to stabilize and reinforce the most distressed sections so it can continue its journey while preserving its original character.
Handwoven from 100% vegetable dyed wool, the colors remain rich and grounded, showing the depth that only natural dyes and old world wool can produce. Because of its age and wear, this runner is best suited for lighter use spaces where its remarkable history can be appreciated rather than subjected to heavy everyday traffic. A true piece of Caucasian weaving heritage…full of stories, strength, and unmistakable presence.
