Handwoven in the early 1900s, this antique has lived a full life and proudly wears every mile of it. The character you see was earned through time and the scattered wear tells its story; but don't mistake that for fragility. Bidjars are celebrated for their incredibly dense construction, and this one remains completely solid with years of life still ahead.
The field is filled with crisp eight-pointed stars, carefully arranged in a rhythmic pattern that alternates between warm camel and deep chocolate grounds. It creates wonderful movement without ever feeling busy, while the dainty borders frame everything with just the right amount of refinement.
Woven entirely from 100% vegetable-dyed wool (both the pile and foundation). the colors have softened into that mellow, earthy palette through a century of life it’s lived. Faded reds, indigo blues, soft camel, and espresso browns all play beautifully together.
It has a wavy end (nature of handmade old rugs) from wear + the tension of the loom and the weather from when the woman was weaving. The wool on Bidjar rugs were wet when women sat at the loom. The knots were then pounded down. If you've ever heard Bidjar rugs called the "Iron Rugs of Persia," this is exactly why. They are incredibly resilient and heavy. It's tough as nails, full of character, and ready for another hundred years of footsteps.
