A 1940s Malayer beauty and in a larger size, which is not the norm for these village weaves. Malayers are usually the petite stars of the rug world, so getting one with this kind of presence is a treat. The field is a scrolling garden party, a marbled mix of strong teal, slate blue, midnight blue and little surprises of lighter tones throughout. Beige, ice blue, espresso brown, warm wheat, oatmeal and charcoal give definition to all the floral work.
The border is just as beautiful and even dated within the top border, in Farsi. The weaver decided to leave a time stamp. In abundance, you also see fish motifs, chicken motifs, and all the personality that village weavers loved sneaking in. It adds a little wink and tells you exactly where this piece comes from. Abrash is consistent throughout, that natural color variation that happens when a new batch of wool hits the loom.
