Here’s a rug that’s seen over a century of life and is still holding court with grace and soul.
This antique Persian beauty from circa 1920 measures 6'7 x 13'2 and it's a rare gallery size, ideal for a grand entry, an elongated hall, or perhaps under a skinny dining table where the rug can shine in all its worn glory. The field is woven with a classic Mahi (Herati) also known as water garden design, deeply intricate and rhythmic, set against a ground of midnight navy blue that feels rich and grounding.
And take a look at the corners, whimsical and bursting with rows of stylized flower heads, almost like confetti in formation. Up close, the floral medallions reveal a painterly palette of aged vegetable dyes…softened over time.
It’s low pile wool, still stout and sold, and full of character, with just the kind of age-earned patina and artful wear that tells its story ever so beautifully. Some minor/pro repairs and fully intact and floor ready.
Handwoven with vegetable dyed wool circa 1920.
