This antique Persian Mahal rug brings all the character you’d expect from something woven by hand in the 1920s using vegetable dyed wool. Made in the village of Mahal, it’s got a warm red ground that sets the stage for an all over ornate design full of small and large scale botanical motifs. The color palette is like a riot of beauty, but balanced. The midnight blue main border keeps things grounded with floral motifs that help tame the bold field.
This rug has clearly lived a full life. There’s a secured patch along one side, a reminder that it’s been used, loved, and professionally mended. Some areas have wool loss, but, it’s still stout, sturdy, and ready to roll. The dyes are vibrant and full of energy, making it a statement piece that doesn’t scream for attention but definitely holds its own. Easy to style and easier to love.
