This late 19th-century Persian scatter rug has the kind of age and wear that you can see immediately and something that simply cannot be manufactured. Its warm coral-like field is packed with wonderfully wonky tribal florals, angular leaves, tiny blossoms, and geometric forms, all framed by a series of richly patterned borders.
The natural vegetable dyes have mellowed beautifully over the past 130 or so years, bringing together faded coral, various blues, earthy brown, espresso brown, faded eggplant, soft green, ivory, and little flashes of old yellow. The wool pile has worn low and bare in places, revealing parts of the foundation and giving the surface its beautifully timeworn, shabby farmhouse character.
The width varies from approximately 3'5 - 3'9. It is not perfectly straight because it was made entirely by hand, and that irregular shape is part of its story.
Despite the visible wear, this one still has substance. The all-wool construction feels heavy and stout rather than thin or flimsy, with a dense weave that has held together remarkably well. It is old, worn, imperfect, and full of personality. It will absolutely ground the floor with history and soul.
