Check out this antique 1920s Persian runner that features a striking small-scale Herati design that is set against a deep navy blue ground paired with a fiery red-orange. Inspired by nature and embellished with tribal motifs, the runner’s abrash, which occurs when a new batch of dyed wool is introduced during the weaving process, adds a unique touch, enhancing its one-of-a-kind charm.
Its electric vibe is amplified by the sky blue and sea blue border, creating a bold contrast. Just outside the main border, triangular motifs likely represent mountain peaks, symbolizing the weavers’ connection to the natural world that surrounded them, which they reflected beautifully in their rugs.
The low-pile wool, woven on a sturdy and stout cotton foundation, makes this runner well equipped for high-traffic areas. Other colors, including splashes of green, chocolate brown, pastel pink, ochre, and khaki, contribute to the runner’s rich palette.
Handwoven with vegetable-dyed wool; its natural wear and scattered signs of use reflect its history. This antique runner has a small patch (please see pic).
This old beauty retains a vibrant energy that will make any space pop.
