This fantastic antique Caucasian rug comes from the nomads of the Caucasus mountains, just north of Persia. Handwoven with vegetable dyed wool, the main field shows rows of strong tribal motifs in alternating colors, set against a navy blue ground that creates a diagonal striped effect when viewed across the surface. It’s a bold, intricate design that immediately draws the eye. Surrounding the field are multiple border bands, including one with a “running water” motif, a known symbol for life and continuity.
Though small in size, this little gem has a big personality. The wool is luminous, giving the rug a sheen that makes it look like it glows under light. The pile is low and soft to the touch, showing off both quality and care in its weaving. Despite its age, the rug is in near mint condition, which is rare for something with this kind of history. With its striking glowing wool and a design that reflects both artistry and tradition, this rug carries a real presence.
