Here’s an antique Persian Ferahan, a well-loved rug from the circa 1900-1920, woven with a remarkably tight and durable weave that speaks to the craftsmanship once reserved for royalty. Ferahan rugs were historically made for Persian aristocrats and nobility, and this piece carries that legacy, in beautiful condition for its age.
Handwoven with vegetable dyed wool. Curvilinear floral art and finely detailed work. A true heirloom and a rare example of Persian Ferahan weaving from the first quarter of the 20th century.
You’ll notice on the underside an old backing or stabilizing treatment applied many decades ago. This was a common practice at the time, done to help protect the foundation, add weight, and guard against edge wear and fraying as the rug aged and was lived with. It’s part of this piece’s long life story and does not impact the integrity or beauty of the wool pile on the face. The rug presents beautifully from the front and remains sturdy, usable, and floor ready.
