Crafted in the 1920s, this small Malayer rug has a lot of character packed into a compact size. Handwoven with vegetable dyed wool, it’s held up impressively well over the decades and still shows off a soft sheen that practically glows under the light.
Its layout features a neat column of botanical-inspired motifs marching down a deep navy blue ground, creating a balanced and inviting design. The warm tones, French blue, espresso brown, and ivory stand out beautifully against the navy, adding just the right amount of contrast without overpowering the piece. At a second glance, you’ll notice subtle abrash, especially at one end, where the shades shift like a gentle watercolor wash, a nod to its handmade nature and natural dyes.
Dainty border bands frame the whole rug, lined with delicate floral chains that echo the colors in the main field. The overall effect is charming and cohesive, with just enough age-worn character to remind you this piece has seen nearly a century of life and still looks fantastic.
