Ohhh she’s got personality. This Persian Kurdish beauty is not here to be perfectly straight and obedient. She’s got a little curve in her step…a gentle wobble along the edges that tells you immediately this was woven by human hands, not a machine humming in a factory somewhere. Those slight curves? That’s charm. That’s village life. That’s real.
The field is packed tight with small scale boteh motifs…tiny paisleys throughout. It almost reads like a textured pattern from afar, but up close you see the individual forms, each one slightly unique. And then there’s the abrash…those soft, natural dye shifts and that subtle streak running through it…proof of hand dyed wool, dyed in small batches, mellowing over time into the most beautiful earthy palette.
The wool of this Persian is heavy. Raw. Real. Old. You feel it the second you lift a corner. She’s not a flimsy thing. She’s stout and solid, even with her gorgeous wear. Worn beautifully…softened in all the right places…yet still completely grounded and strong.
Mellowed natural dyes give her that smoky rose and earthy brown tone that only a century of life can create. She feels like she’s already lived a life…and is very ready to keep going. From circa 1900. A soulful Kurdish piece with grit, curves, and quiet confidence. Handwoven with vegetable dyed wool.
