When you want a rug worn and ancient enough to really hit the spot, this one has it in spades.
Woven in the last quarter of the 19th century in the Caucasus, the mountainous region between the Black and Caspian Seas, it comes from a tradition of rugs made by women in village and tribal communities. Its bold motifs, aged vegetable dyed palette, and abrash give it so much to take in. Those shifts in color came as different batches of dyed wool were worked into the rug over time.
It’s light, floppy, and beautifully worn, with all the character you hope to find in a rug this old. You do need to give it a quieter spot where its art and history can be admired; I wouldn’t choose it for a busy walkway. A custom cut pad is included on the house. Thanks for shopping small.
