Battered and Bruised Antique Tribal Runner / 3'4 x 7'2 Caucasian Runner #3934

Regular price $1,530.00

Battered, bruised, patched, and still ticking.

This early 1900s Caucasian runner has lived a very full life, and it wears every chapter openly. Handwoven in the mountain villages north of Persia (near the Black Caspian Sea), these rugs were commonly created by women who worked from memory, repeating the symbols, flowers, and geometric forms passed through generations rather than following a factory-drawn pattern.

The dark central field is filled with rows of stylized flowering trees and tulip-like forms, surrounded by tiny protective diamonds and angular tribal markings. A wide ivory border carries large geometric rosettes and groups of pinwheel-like motifs, while smaller red and blue borders frame everything with even more color and movement.

The vegetable-dyed wool has mellowed beautifully, but still remains vibrant and with contrast. Antique Caucasians always have great contrasting colors.

This one exhibits new and old repairs, patches, reinforced areas, worn sections, and plenty of evidence that people cared enough to keep it going, including me. Its weave is supple with a wonderfully floppy handle.

Because of its age and condition, it is not recommended for a high-traffic area. Give it a quieter hallway or low-traffic spot where all that survival and old rug magic can be properly appreciated.

Will ship with a custom cut rug pad on the house.
