This antique Persian Mahal is a true village original, and it wears its age proudly. Woven around 1910, it features a linear layout of decorative botanical motifs drifting across an abrashed navy blue ground. The color variation is honest and organic, thanks to vegetable dyed wool and small batch dyeing that gives the field that beautifully uneven, lived in look collectors love.
The borders bring in a warm contrast with golden-wheat toned grounds filled with floral details and charming turtle motifs, a classic Mahal village touch. The wool has softened over time, giving the rug a wonderfully floppy handle and an easy, relaxed feel underfoot. It’s the classic Mahal feel.
This one is heavily worn, which adds character and story, but also means it’s best suited for a quieter setting rather than a high traffic zone. Think reading room, bedroom, or a calm corner where it can be appreciated without being overworked. A soulful, old village rug with great bones, great color, and superb botanical art to enjoy.
Handwoven with vegetable dyed wool.
