From the south of Persia, this old and worn Shiraz rug was woven circa 1880 and it proudly wears its history with a softened edge, faded natural dyes, and beautifully weathered detail. Time has gently softened every color, allowing them to settle into one another with an ease that only genuine age can create. It has a low wool pile and a wool foundation, with earthy tones and a nice, relaxed and floppy handle. It’s wool was naturally dyed with vegetables, roots and plant sources.
The geometric medallions are framed by charming village floral motifs and tribal artwork, giving the rug an understated elegance while maintaining the rugged spirit of Shiraz. If you look closely, you'll also see the animal elements woven into this piece as weavers pay respect to their livestock and natural surroundings.
Low pile, naturally distressed through time.
